Everything employers need to know about Ma'ashi: UAE's digital pension platform for Emiratis and GCC nationals

Most people who’ve made the UAE their home earn an income here. But how many of us know the Arabic word for it? It’s Ma'ashi (معاشي), as essential as our morning karak! It is essential, in fact, that the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) decided to name its new digital pension platform after it: Ma'ashi.

The platform was built to be easily accessible for both employers and insured members, who can log in using their UAE Pass. With the growing Emirati employment quotas in the private sector, the timing couldn’t be better. By the end of 2024, any company with 20 employees or more must hire at least one Emirati, with an additional hire required by 2025.

What can employers do on Ma'ashi?

Employers can instantly register new insured members, update salaries, and make changes to personal details. Ma'ashi offers full transparency, allowing insured members to view their information and even calculate their expected pension based on age and years of service.

Who needs to use Ma'ashi?

Any employer hiring an Emirati or GCC national must register these employees on Ma'ashi.

Why is this important?

These employees are part of the pension and social security system, which means they don’t receive end-of-service benefits like other expats. Instead, their entitlements are covered through pension contributions.

How does it work?

The employer is responsible for:

  • Registering new hires and deregistering employees who leave
  • Notifying the GPSSA of any unpaid leave taken by the employee
  • Paying the monthly pension contributions (for both employer and employee) on time and in full
  • Updating compensation packages in case of any changes

The employee's contribution is automatically deducted from their salary each month.
